Xicay said everyone in his family, 19 people, were killed when a massive mudslide covered the village of Panabaj on October 5. He also lost all of the horses with which he earned a living. Xicay has been living in a church shelter, but was told the shelter will close at the end of the week, and he has nowhere else to go. Torrential rains and mudslides associated with Hurricane Stan devasted some parts of western Guatemala. The Guatemalan government has put the number of dead at 669, and says that 31, 971 people are living in shelters. Locals say at least 500 people were killed at Panabaj.
